Today's episode of Family Style sees Stacy Fan interview the stunning Mayly Tao AKA the Donut Princess!
DK's donut's is a beautiful Chasing the American dream story and has only been made more inspiring by just how far Mayly has taken the business.
Mayly Tao's great uncle, Ted Ngoy, a Cambodian refuge came to the US in the 70s and got into the donut business and became the owner of hundreds of donuts shops, bringing joy to so many people with the donuts through the universal language of food!
Incredibly, Ngoy went on to sponsor other Cambodian refugees by teaching them the business and helped them open their own stores. Because Ngoy used the now infamous pink boxes associated with donuts, so did everyone else and he became known as the Donut King!
Back in the 80s Ngoy taught Mayly's parents the business and they went on to open their first donut store in 1981. Around 2009, Mayly’s brother took over the business and after graduating Mayly joined the family business. After modernising it and bringing in her creative and ambitious vision, she soon became known as the Donut Princess!
Her Uncle's legacy still lives on through the pink boxes, not just in DK's Donuts but all over LA. Mayly has now updated DK's donuts boxes to create a fun eye catching and recognisable branding and design!
Check out our episode today as I indulge in some of the most mouth watering donuts and you get to see Mayly whip some up in the Kitchen!
