We belong to a highly visual world. Social and digital media have allowed us to see international fashion without having to book an expensive flight. Just looking at the growing industry in Asia, fashion has made leaps and bounds. This is to be expected. Historically the continent has offered an unforgettable richness, and though may have lulled at one point, current times have led us to designers pushing for more than a fast fad. With the ease of being able to share their vision across multiple platforms, we find Asia is becoming a force that can take on the major four fashion capitals.
Eurasian Vogue begins their exploration of menswear with South Korea’s highly favored Beyond Closet line by Tae Yong Ko. The foundation of Ko’s work is heavy hints of classic cuts and fits, geared towards an urban, street cool by using his experiences and the city around him as influence.
His designs are not for the shy, and that is why we come back to his work every season. Tailored blazers, single and double breasted, along with traditional bomber style jackets are decorated with rich embroidery. Combining the timeless with pop culture themes, Ko drives a youthful, carefree energy into the Fall 2016 collection. These head-turning looks continue to push Asian menswear designers to the world stage.
There is absolutely nothing boring about Beyond Closet. Some lines you chance upon a style or two that could be considered a misstep, but not with Ko. Everything is fluid to the story he wants to present. Take a look at his “Bromance” collection, each piece is signature to what we would expect from him. Key graphics and heavy patchwork have us ready to storm the ultra stylish streets of Seoul.
Already paving the way from Seoul Fashion Week to New York Fashion Week yearly, Ko continues to work on expanding his designer house. Branching into different labels and collaborations, Beyond Closet is on its way to becoming a widely recognized household name in the very near future.
On an end note: what exactly is it that draw us to Tae Yong Ko?
It’s having no fear in how to dress, and really wearing what you want regardless of how it’ll be received. Dressing for men doesn’t have to be based on a strict, classic code. Express yourselves with some of Beyond Closet’s fall pieces.
