We’ve all been there, standing in a department store’s denim section going to each different brand to see which jean will be our ‘perfect fit’. As you go into the changing room you try on one pair that fit perfectly around the waist but are too baggy on the thighs; A pair that fit perfectly on the thighs if only they were a half an inch wider on the waist. You leave the changing room having tried on 20 pairs of jeans, feeling like you’ve just done a work out, and walk out of the store empty handed feeling a little bit rubbish.
You peruse the magazine that says, ‘Find your Perfect Jean Whatever Your Shape’ with the individual titles ‘Ideal for the Athletic Figure’, ideal for ‘ Curvy’. Well, what about a brand that fits all body types, a brand that has a contour band that flatters all shapes, and that has a 10.5 inch rise to be practical for a working mum to a woman in her twenties running errands and not wanting the dreaded builders bum? Well step up Mary Ellen Moschetti of Parker Smith Jeans.
You see Moschetti knows what women are looking for. Having originally planned to market her jeans to women from 35-40 and above, Moschetti, like so many others thought that jeans couldn’t be universal. However after gathering her friends of all shapes and sizes, her young slim neighbor who had just had a baby, as well as the women in her team of all shapes and sizes and varying age ranges to try out the different jeans, Moschetti knew she was on to something. Her jeans looked good on everyone.
Moschetti has put her jeans through vigorous testing herself. Her designer, Selina Tahmasian, called Moschetti up in England whilst she was there traveling, “Wear the bombshell jeans from London Heathrow-to LA’s LAX and let me know...” Moschetti did, planning on taking the jeans off half way though the flight if she needed to, however she ended up doing the entire 12 hour flight wearing them. Upon landing she called her team, “We’ve got it, this fabric is perfect.”
Since then, the most popular style has been, unsurprisingly, ‘The Bombshell’. So well constructed and so comfortable that it has been not just Moschetti’s favorite jean but the celebrity go to jean for travel the last few years. Gigi Hadid is a huge fan. Despite being gifted items on the daily, Hadid has several pairs of Parker Smith Jeans and is often seen striding through LAX in her Bombshell’s, compliment indeed for a celebrity who has a whole wardrobe filled with denim.
Other celebrities include everyone from Miranda Kerr to Tyra Banks, another testament to the jeans fitting such a variation of body types. I too can attest to the comfort of the jeans. I wore the Bombshell from LA-Hong Kong, an almost 16 hours flight and felt like I was sitting in a pair of leggings.
The price point of the denim runs from $130-$220 for the more expensive Italian fabric, a worthy price for a pair of jeans that has the perfect amount of stretch that won't bag out after a few wears.
So if you’re looking for the perfect pair of jeans, I’m going to go out on a limb and say your hunt might well be over. From their classic denim, that can be worn with a sharp blazer for work attire, to their slightly more trend focused pieces for the weekend, such as the twisted bombshell, there is something for everyone and for every body shape.
