Kate Bosworth for Topshop

Kate Bosworth has just unveiled her second collection with Topshop.  Earlier this year, she embraced the ever popular festival fashion by teaming up as a consultant for Topshop's Festival collection with a very boho chic vibe. 

However with this second collection, Bosworth has embraced one of this seasons hottest trends, the menswear inspired clothing for women.  She has unveiled a very clean aesthetic with an edgier design. With a nod to masculine tailoring, and the use of leather with simple lines she is showing her own versatility within fashion which is very cohesive with her personal style.  One to always hit the mark in fashion, with her laid back California cool, this new collection doesn't disappoint.  It consists of 46 pieces that are style staples.  One of the key things about Bosworth is she's always completely on trend without looking like she's tried to hard, and this capsule is wonderfully indicative of that vibe. Love it.

Blue Jasmine : Fashion in movies!

I The other night, I went to go and see Blue Jasmine, starring Cate blanchett, directed by Woody Allen.

I adore movies, but when a movie encumbasses both wonderful acting (from the always amazing Cate Blanchett) and an orgy of fashion, I'm in heaven! I adored the movie. Allen is known for being cruel to his fictional characters, and this might be the cruelest he has been yet.  But the juxtoposition of Jasmine (played by Blanchett) and the amazing fashion he showcases only helps deepen the impact and complexity of the character he is depicting. Blanchett is astounding in the role and despite the shallow nature of her character manages to make the audience feel empathy towards her, a real testament to both the writing of Allen and the amazing performance by Blanchett. A must see.

Aside from the wonderful acting and fantastic script, the fashion in this movie is truly stunning.  The person responsible for the costuming was designer Suzy Benzinger's and this is her fifth time working with Woody Allen. After working with Allen so many times, Benzinger knows exactly what he likes.  Woody Allen has always managed to create a timeless, almost classic feeling with all of his films and this is in part due to the costuming. Speaking of her experience working with him, Benzinger says: "He wants his films to be timeless. He doesn't want you to look at one of his films five years from now and say, 'Oh, that was so trendy. That was so five years ago.' He loves the classic stuff; that's just the way he is."

Due to the nature of Blanchett's character, Jasmine her wardrobe consisted of elegant and expensive clothes which is a true reflection of the world she lives in. Therefore the most prominent designers were on the hit list.  "As far as the brands go for Jasmine, it really was Chanel and Fendi," she says.

Swaddled in Valentino and and Carolina Herrera, only a true star like blanchett could of pulled in such a stunning wardrobe. A perfect example of this was when Benzinger sent Karl Lagerfeld a note asking if he would be so kind as to send Blanchett a custom made Chanel jacket.  However the time of this request happened to fall on fashion week and due to just how busy the house would of been during that time she says, "I was astounded. I sent a note and in two days he shipped out two custom made jackets for Cate Blanchett with the most beautiful note. And I just thought, 'Oh my god,' and he just said 'For Cate, I’d do anything.' When the jackets arrived, I said, 'How could he do this?' It was right during the fashion shows and everything and he turned them around and sent them to me. Cate put it on and it was perfect."

The Chanel Jacket that Benzinger is speaking about is a piece specifically requested by Allen for Blanchett's character. Feeling that it was a piece that would instantly be associated with the character, and perfectly exemplified her lifestyle and where she had come from. "Woody loves to have costumes in his films that speak volumes about history and fashion," says Benzinger,  "I think as soon as I said Chanel jacket his eyes lit up and he said, 'Do you think we actually could get a Chanel jacket?' And I said, 'I think we could.'"

As for the other characters? For the men, including Alex Baldwin's charachter, Benzinger looked to Ralph Lauren. Baldwin's character Looks very Hamptons chic throughout, with his character wearing lofas and white shirts. Sally Hawkins who plays Blanchett's sister, Ginger in the movie it was thrift shops.  "We did Salvation Army and thrift stores because she started down on her luck," said Benzinger, "I think her character’s fun and I think she’s sexy and has found a different way of life than her sister."

With absolute eye candy of fashion throughout, and surely a best actress nomination for Blanchett, I highly recommend!

Autumn Winter 2013- 2014 trends!

Now that New York, Paris and Milan fashion week are over, here's a review of some of my favourate trends for Autumn / Winter 2013-2014! 





Skirts

Skirts were having a big moment in spring/summer 2013, and they continue to stick around for autumn. Watch out for skirts to be worn with more casual wear.  By adding another of this seasons trends, the sweater you'll be hitting two trends in one.  As seen at VB's show you can also add matching prints. Takes you straight from day to night.

Sweaters

Autumn can be an awkward season, with very changeable weather. Embrace this with this seasons trend of sweaters.  Match with skirts and jeans, and belt for more shape as seen at House of Holland. Love it!

Over-sized Coats

One of my favourate things to wear is a luxurious statement coat that is both fashion forward and cozy! This season we've seen a huge array of oversized coats walking down the runway. As we near winter, the coat becomes an important part of your wardrobe and this season we can make a real statement with it, it's time to get cosy and fashionable!

Pretty in Pink

I have to say I've never been a massive fan of pink, however this season it's definitely back with a bang and I have to admit I'm loving this Carven suit. Mixing the suit, oversized jacket and pink hue, Carven is nailing three trends in one.  I love the luxurious material and the cut, keeping it sexy and warm.

I adore this beautifully chic Marc Jacobs pink coat.  Thrown over jeans, a dress or skirt it would be perfect for an array of events and would instantly make you hot to trot. 

 With such a beautiful classic tailoring, it will still look fantastic ten years from now and makes for a great investment piece. 


And now for my favorite trend: Menswear

Mens inspired clothing is a huge trend for 2014.  I for one absolutely love a nod to menswear within women's clothing and think it can be extremely sexy.  Seen on Antonio Berardi (left), Emporio Armani, Richard Nicoll, Diesel Black Gold,  Haider Ackermann and Donna Karan it was all over the runway.  
The key to this trend, is to wear with absolute confidence, and as with any suit, great tailoring. Just because it's menswear inspired doesn't mean it's not feminine, in fact quite the contrary. It can mean capri trousers, with a great jacket, well cut feminine tailoring and of course the accessories can be as feminine as you'd like.  Wear with high heels, and a great bag.

Marc Jacobs Final show for Vuitton

The place, Paris, the venue a tent installed in the Cour Carrée du Louvre. The reason Louis Vuitton show. An apt location for the final farewell from Marc Jacobs who is bowing out as creative director for the brand.  Since taking the helm of the brand, Marc Jacobs has turned LV around from slightly outdated leather bags and luggage to major player in the fashion world with statement fashion pieces each season.  The final show was done in true Marc Jacobs style.  Known for his extravagant and spectacular shows even using escalators in one show, his final hurrah was a flashback to his most memorable, including the carousel, the “Night Porter” elevators, the railway station clock, and yes, the escalators made an appearance. All were painted in black. As Marc Jacobs success has grown so has the cost of his shows and this was the most spectacular yet. After 16 years of working with the brand, this show stopping goodbye should have been expected. 

Although Marc Jacobs is leaving Louis Vuitton, Jacobs will very much remain a part of the LVHM family. Showing no signs of slowing down, Jacobs departure as designer from LV is so that Jacobs can focus more on the Marc Jacobs brand and it was proving hard to do both. Recognizing that it is taking a lot more work and a lot more investment, the LVHM family will be providing both in order to help with the expansion. The Marc Jacobs brand has gone from about $20 million 16 years ago to nearly $1 billion today and with LVMH owning a controlling share of the Marc Jacobs operating company their involvement will not diminish. Jacobs and Robert Duffy, (Jacobs long term business partner) own one-third each of the trademark. Bernard Arnault, LVMH’s chairman and chief executive officer, spoke of their plans to go IPO and acknowledged the time the partners will have to put in, both creatively and communication-wise on the brand.

It was a fairly spontanious decision to make this Jacobs last show.  They knew the time was looming if they wanted to push forward with the Marc Jacobs brand, therefore Arnault left it to Jacobs and Duffy to decide, and last minute they decided to make it this show. 

With plans to expand the brand further and with the hugely successful launch of Sephora make up products in August, Duffy talks about how the plans are already in motion. They have hired a new design team for Marc by Marc, Katie Hillier as creative director and Luella Bartley as women’s design director were unveiled last May and autumn 2014 will be their first collection. In addition they plan to increase the collection of handbags and therefore increase distribution.  This means restructuring what they're doing and almost going back to square one, in order to expand. 

As for Louis Vuitton and it's future designer? Nicolas Ghesquière is considered the front-runner but Arnault says in WWD interview,  “We have to, after the show, think and decide. But no decision will be made immediately.” 

Whatever happens from here, the Jacobs brand only looks like it's going to continue to grow and become even more influential around the world. As for Louis Vuitton, I'm excited to hear who will take over the brand. Watch this space!
