Emma Frattolillo, founder of Thread Em, is one of Italy’s hottest bag designers to have recently moved to LA. Having started her company just one year ago, coinciding with her move stateside, she’s already making waves internationally with features in publications such as Grazia and Vanity Fair. Inspired by architect Ettore Sottsass, her bags have a leaning towards geometric shapes and always stunningly bold and confident in color as Frattolillo blends both her European sensibility with the California sun, with all bags made in Los Angeles, and the artwork made in Italy.
Handbags, Frattolillo tells me are, “the product that can explain my creativity the best, and I’ve always loved handbags” Frattolillo laughs.
Starting out with silk scarves that are still a part of the collection, Frattolillo now adds them to her handbag handles to create an extra pop of color, “Scarves are like paintings, all the work I do is inspired by art.”
This is clear to see when you study Frattolillo's collection, with no detail left out. From the cool blue color of one of her bags with the contrasting inside leather in a warm coral, to the back pocket (the perfect size for your phone or passport when traveling) with it’s geometric shapes almost as adorned as the front of the bag. Frattolillo tells me, “I always like that element of surprise, I like to find the balance with color, the cool colors balanced with the warm tones. A lot of the colors I use are very LA, very summery in style, the colors are very powerful!”
The perfect pop of color for any season, with a collection that includes transparent clutches and backpacks ideal for festivals, Thread Em bags are the best way to brighten up your day and your wardrobe! Available at Flying Solo in New York and online at www.threadem.it
